Fun Wedding Photo Ideas
Fun Wedding Photo Ideas with Polaroid Cameras
Pictures are an integral part of any wedding. Newlyweds are usually thrilled to get their pictures back from the photographer so they can relive their special day. But there are many special activities you can build into a wedding that involve photos.
One fun idea that many brides employ is to take photos of everyone as they arrive at the wedding, almost like you do at a high school prom or company Christmas party. You can provide a backdrop and couples can pose either for a paid photographer or for whoever happens to pick up the camera. These pictures can be taken with a Polaroid camera for instant fun or with a disposable camera. If you want slightly higher quality photos, go for a digital camera.
This can be an excellent way to keep guests busy and happy until the "official" reception begins with the arrival of the bride and groom.
As an extension of that idea, you can take instant photos and create scrapbook pages or memory book pages with the photos. There can be supplies on hand so guests can create pages on site, or pages can be pre-made and photos simply placed into the prepared spaces. If guests don't want to create pages on site, or the bride doesn't want this particular activity going on, the photos can be saved for later. As a gift for the bride and groom, someone can create memory books with these photos.
If Polaroid cameras are used, another option is to have the people in the photo sign the Polaroid photo and place that in a basket somewhere. The bride and groom will enjoy looking at the photos later. While it's not a particularly unique idea, many brides like to provide disposable cameras on each table at the reception so guests can capture candid shots of the reception and the table guests. These photos can be added to the newlyweds' wedding album or they can be placed into a separate album showing the wedding from the guests' perspective.
Another fun activity sure to be entertaining is to create a "silent photo guess" area. Here's how this works: before the wedding, someone close to the bride and groom collects pictures of the bride and groom at various stages in life. The photos should depict the bride and groom doing things, not at Christmas or with their first birthday cake. In other words, the photos should include some action, but it shouldn't be obvious in the picture what has taken place or where the person is.
Much like a silent auction, people will come along and look at the photos, then take a silent guess as to what the photos show. They can write their guess on a piece of paper and put it in a numbered basket that corresponds with the number on the photo. Reading these guesses during the reception is entertaining and sure to be amusing. The bride or groom can provide the real answers. This is a particularly fun activity at a relatively small, family wedding where the participants know the bride and groom very well.
If you want to provide an area for guests to have their photos taken but aren't thrilled with the "prom night" idea, how about having a photo corner set up somewhere in the reception hall or facility. Here, the wedding photographer will take candid shots of wedding guests. They might be couples, but could also be entire families, friends having a good time, or the groom being carried on the shoulders of the best man.
Whatever the pictures end up being, they provide a fun, "let it all hang out" area for the wedding guests and a surprise for the bride and groom. Since they will likely be busy with all the reception details and having the time of THEIR lives, they might appreciate knowing their guests had a pretty good time too, as evidenced in the photos.

INTERVIEW: Julianne Smith Garters
{images courtesy of Sevan Photography (www.sevanphotography.com)}
The smile on her face is indicative of a woman who loves what she does for a living. Julianne Smith is that woman. She recently celebrated the launch of her new collection in DC with a fab party and cupcakes, of course. She was so kind to give The Bridal Wishlist an interview.
TBW: What is your name? What is the name of your business?
JS: Julianne Smith; Julianne Smith Wedding Garters
TBW: Tell me a little bit about yourself?
JS: Let's see...I live in Washington, DC with my husband and daughter. I'm a virgo. I don't like change, but I love when things are different. I'm incredibly loyal. I become obsessed with things way to easily. And, I almost always make my own ravioli. Oh and I don't like when the seat is hot from the person who sat there before me.
TBW: LOL
TBW: Why did you get into the wedding business as a garter designer?
JS: Like the obsessive person that I am, I was determined that my friend, Brooke, have the most perfect garter for her wedding. I was given one bridesmaid duty and I didn't want to fail. I couldn't find anything to match Brooke's fun, simple personality, so I just made it myself.
TBW: What is your typical work day like?
JS: I don't have a typical day. I wish I could say this was due to my almost 2 year old. But, no. It is me; I'm all over the place. There is nothing typical about any of my days.
TBW: How do you choose your fabrics and color palettes?
JS: I like to follow wedding trend colors, but then mix the palettes up a little bit. That is what I think brides want and expect from me.
TBW: Where do you go for inspiration?
JS: I'm really inspired by anything and everything around me. I love color and jewelry, and people with amazing personal style.
TBW: Do you do custom work? If yes, tell me a little about your custom process?
JS: Most of my wedding garters are custom designed. Brides generally want something in particular to match their personality and their day. My custom process is fairly simple: just tell me what you want/like and I'll try to make it work.
TBW: What is the most unusual design request that you have received?
JS: Here is kind of a cute idea that I haven't thought of before...I just recently received a request to make a headband for an infant to wear on her baptism which would then be saved for her wedding to wear as a garter.
TBW: That is totally a cute idea!
TBW: What advice do you have for brides?
JS: Just have fun! If you aren't enjoying it then don't do it.
TBW: If you could design a garter for anyone in the world, who would it be?
JS: I have no idea...
TBW: I guess that's a loaded question.

Nicole Tlaquepaque Wedding
Wow does time fly. I met with this adorable couple in August 2008 for their June 19 wedding in Tlaquepaque. They were both so creative and knew what they wanted. Brides favorite flower on top done with a pink center to match their colors. Groom love for blackberries created the side accents. They both loved a smooth buttercream finish. They were having a very intimate wedding so the cake was designed to have a single handmade sugar flower on top with blackberry accents on sides of cake.
We time flies and before they knew it their intimate wedding grew and grew. Since the cake was ordered in August 08 ten months before the wedding it slipped everyone mind that the cake was to small. Then the week of wedding it hit them. The cake ordered would not come even close to serve their guests. So the called the week of wedding and Sweet Arts quickly pulled a larger cake with similar ideas together. The Bride and I had spoken a few times on the ideas that may work well.
Quickly Dana & I brain stormed. I had already made her sugar flower. Now I had to create something else as one flower alone would not be look good for this size cake. Dana suggested me to made quite a few of them that could be clustered on the top. I wasn't sure I could make these were a cluster would work. Since I had only two days to pull it together I came back that night and created these beauties. I made green sugar leaves which I used to tie the sugar flowers and berries together. The cake ended up being one of my favorites. The cake is simple and reflects the love of a wonderful couple.
